Biography

Mavis Matlhwana leads the support business division of the National Payment System Department within the South African Reserve Bank (SARB). Her primary role is enabling the department to execute the SARB’s National Payment System Framework and Strategy (the Vision 2025) – a multi year vision focused on broadening access to payment services for all consumers and businesses. She further plays a critical role of leading the SADC payments integration project office that is responsible for coordinating projects aimed to deepen financial inclusion, foster financial integrity and enable fintech development in the SADC region. She previously worked in governance and executive operational enablement roles in the private sector (telecommunications and commercial banking) and has vast experience in amongst others strategy development, implementation of transformational strategic projects, and effective risk management.
