- Biography
- Chucri Mouannes has been with the Central Bank of Lebanon (BdL) for the last 30 years. He is currently an Executive Director and head of the Statistics and Economic Research department and has been holding this position for the last 9 years. He sets the department’s performance objectives and monitors its process, leads the development of reports and papers pertaining to the analysis of macroeconomic and financial issues for policymaking, and ensures the accuracy of the production and dissemination of developed Statistics. Before holding his current position, he was the Acting Director of the Training and Capacity Development department for 2 years. Mr. Mouannes is a member of the BdL Financial Stability and Open Market committees, amongst others. He is also a member of the Accounting Classification committee, recognized in accordance with the Ministry of Finance, and represents the Central Bank in the National Council for Policy Prices at the Ministry of Economy and Trade. He also represents BdL in the National Accounts team of the Central Administration of Statistics. Mr. Mouannes represents the Central Bank in the MENA Statistics Initiative (Arabstat) and the Financial Stability Task Force committees at the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) and in the Irving Fisher committee (IFC) on Central Banks’ Statistics at the Bank of International Settlement (BIS). He is also a Steering Committee member of the World Bank (WB) MENA Regional Research Network and sits at the negotiations table with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the potential program for Lebanon. He also represents BdL in the KNOMAD Working Group of Global Remittances. Mr. Mouannes was a university lecturer on Business Models and Financial Econometrics for more than 10 years and is still supervising theses in several universities. He holds two Master’s Degrees in Pure and Applied Mathematics from the Lebanese University with a concentration in Econometrics.
